This file is the current version, with a full description of all aspects of the Standard.
GEDCOM was developed by the Family History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints (LDS Church) to provide a flexible, uniform format for exchanging computerized genealogical data. GEDCOM is an acronym for GEnealogical Data Communication. Its purpose is to foster the sharing of genealogical information and the development of a wide range of inter-operable software products to assist genealogists, historians, and other researchers. |

UK Language conversions for PhpGedView

PhpGedView, as with most software, is written using American as its basic language. Many other languages can be set, but one that has never been included is 'English', as used in the United Kingdom.
However, through adding a file called extra.en.php in the 'languages' folder PGV has built in the ability to over-ride any existing language settings.
This file contains a number of conversions from American to UK English, notably:
1 - the word COLOR to COLOUR
2 - FAVORITE to FAVOURITE
3 - Various occurrences of the letter 'Z' changed to 'S' (e.g. 'Synchronise' instead of 'Synchronize').
IMPORTANT NOTE - if you use this file you will need to monitor future language changes and additions in PGV. I cannot guarantee to update this version at any time. |

I've wanted for a long time to use the Google Map concept for a pedigree chart / map - and finally got round to writing it.
Probably not the best piece of programming, but it seems to work well, within some limitations.
The zip file includes a readme.txt file with installation (fairly easy) and use instructions.
Its appears as a new option under the 'Charts' menus (both main menu and 'options for
individuals') and can be seen there on the PGV areas of this site.
[Note: this v2 has a minor change to pedigree_map.php, making the edit options below the map available to admin only, as on the normal MAP tab]

These files were created to enable the addition of transcripts of Birth, Marriage, and Death certificates (from the UK) to PGV as images, that were as similar to the originals as possible without breaching the Crown Copyright laws that govern them.
Instructions for installation and use are included in the 'help.htm' file. |
